Playing a mother on screen is often considered a career risk for young actresses in Indian cinema, with many fearing that such roles could affect their glamorous image and future opportunities as heroines. However, Srinidhi Shetty is challenging this perception with her decision to play Venkatesh’s wife and a mother of two in Trivikram Srinivas’ Aadarsha Kutumbam – House No. 47. She believes interesting characters should take priority over conventional career expectations. Her decision also brings to mind Meenakshi Chaudhary, who played a young mother in Dulquer Salmaan’s Lucky Baskhar.
Speaking about her decision, Srinidhi said she never considered turning down the offer despite playing a mother. She described the opportunity to work with Trivikram and Venkatesh as a privilege, adding that films and characters like these come along very rarely. She admitted having initial doubts about whether she could do justice to the character but was extremely satisfied with the final output. She also said she would have regretted rejecting the film and highlighted that it gave her an opportunity to explore comedy for the first time.
Srinidhi Shetty has maintained that actresses should not restrict themselves because of age-related expectations or the fear of losing glamorous opportunities. Interestingly, Aadarsha Kutumbam hit theatres today and received a mixed-to-positive response from critics. Her portrayal of Swarna, a middle-class woman and mother, has been appreciated by reviewers and audiences alike. Her performance has been described as a pleasant surprise, further strengthening her argument that good characters matter more than conventional heroine images.
